Improve training with graphical simulators
Security is the top priority in any company and organisation that works with nuclear power. That also means, however, that it might not always be easy for people outside of the nuclear field to get a glimpse into what we do. At the CET conference in September, we organised a site visit to KSU's training unit in Simpevarp outside Oskarshamn and invited seventeen participants. Our Nuclear and Simulation Senior Specialist Engineer, Antanas Romas, welcomed the visitors on Thursday afternoon and introduced them to KSU's academic simulators (PSIM), Part Scope Simulator (DSIM), Severe Accident Simulator (HSIM) and Full Scope Simulator (FSS).
Antanas and two instructors, Mikael Stenmark and Robert Sundqvist, provided insights into how simulator technologies are used to train operators at a nuclear power plant. The visitors gained a basic understanding of the simulator’s functions and took part in hands-on exercises. In the Full Scope Simulator, they also gained insight into the operator’s role in the control room during normal operation and emergency situations.
Antanas shared his thoughts, saying,
“The most inspiring was observing the participants’ eagerness for practical knowledge, desire to understand how things work, and optimism about the future. It was fascinating to see how quickly they grasped the complexities of nuclear technology when given proper hands-on guidance. There are many bright minds here capable of driving the nuclear power forward while ensuring its safety at the same time!”
