Valve Maintenance

The course is intended for maintenance technicians and other personnel with tasks related to the plant’s maintenance.

The course is divided into a theoretical and a practical section. The theoretical section deals with the basics of all the valve types that exist at Swedish nuclear power plants.

The main content of the course

  • Main process, BWRs and PWRs
  • Layout and function of valves and basic theories
  • Valves in system descriptions and flow charts
  • Sealing force of valves
  • Electrical and pneumatic devices
  • Review of existing pilot operated safety valves
  • Demonstration of practical steps for motor operated valves (MOV)
  • Demonstration of practical steps for pneumatic valves.

The course lasts for two and a half days, and prior knowledge is required for individual work in nuclear power plants.


Personnel from the power stations and contractors must apply via their immediate manager in accordance with the procedures for the power stations in question.
